Time to Nurture with Alison is a peaceful sanctuary where you can relax and recharge. It is my aim that you will leave feeling deeply relaxed and rejuvenated with a new sense of clarity.
I am a fully insured professional therapist and a Member of the Guild of Holistic Therapists (MGHT).
Modern life can be stressful . Today’s technology also means that few people ever really switch off. Visits here are all about redressing this balance and putting back what life can take out. Investment in your health is the best one you can ever make.
Holistic means you are treated as a whole so not just on a physical level but also on an emotional, mental and even spiritual level as all these factors affect our health.
I discovered Reiki a few years ago and was amazed at the difference it can make to a person's wellbeing. I have since added other therapies which can be blended with a little Reiki as a lovely way to sample it.
I use Neal's Yard Organic products as they are natural and safe yet very effective. They also have great therapeutic properties so compliment the treatments wonderfully. 60% of what we put on our skin gets absorbed straight into our bloodstream. I can supply products for you to use at home to recreate your salon experience.
Clients are now realising the benefits of regular treatments. If you think of our energy system as a bank account ; anything stressful and negative (even people!) can be draining and can deplete us so this is like a withdrawal. Anything / anyone that makes us feel good, perhaps time with friends and relaxation, can be thought of as a deposit topping up our energy supply. If we take out more than we put back, eventually our energies become depleted and our health can start to suffer.
Holistic treatments can enhance your wellbeing, bringing you back into a state of balance. They are wonderful for improving sleep, reducing stress and quietening the mind as so many people find it difficult to live in the moment. One of my clients has a sleep app on her phone and the pattern of her sleep is much more constant after her monthly visit !
It's essential you find the right therapist for you. I do my utmost to make clients feel at ease from the start. I try and look at each person as a unique individual and take the time to listen. Adequate time is always left between clients so you never feel rushed. An initial appointment includes a short consultation (this does not come out of your treatment time). I am also happy to recommend simple lifestyle changes so that you can help yourself in between visits.
I love what I do and I hope this comes across to all my clients.
Time to Nurture with Reiki in Fareham
The best way to understand Reiki is to experience it for yourself! I refer to Reiki as my little bit of magic. It is a very special therapy and probably like nothing else you have ever tried.
Reiki is a holistic therapy which means it treats the person as a whole, not just on a physical level but also emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
We are all made up of energy and when this energy flows without interruption there is balance and harmony that we experience as a sense of wellbeing and good health. If any blockages or imbalances occur in this flow of energy we feel unwell as a result and can experience physical symptoms. Experiences in our lives that cause stress and emotional upset can affect this energy flow. Reiki energy works to remove blockages and restore balance, flowing to where it is needed.
The word Reiki is Japanese and is split into 2 parts : Rei meaning "Universal" and Ki meaning "Life force Energy". More commonly Ki is refered to in the West as Chi (the Chinese equivalent).
Our physical body is only part of who we are as a whole . We are surrounded by an energy field made up of several layers called the Aura. Within this field, we can store past emotional hurts and traumas which, although suppressed, can be influencing our health and how we act on a daily basis.
Most physical ailments have an emotional cause and come from a much deeper level that we realise. Reiki healing can unlock and release these emotions. Quite often, the physical symptoms associated with the emotion will then disappear. Some people have a trigger event in their life which causes pain which they bury deeply. It is likely they will continue to experience physical symptoms until these emotions are released.
Our bodies are constantly talking to us and giving us messages about what is going on at a deeper level. To give some examples, lower back problems can indicate a lack of financial support. Fear sits in the knees and so knee problems can indicate a fear of the past (left knee) and fear of the future (right knee).
Fortunately, Reiki is now becoming more main stream as a viable therapy with many doctors and nurses being trained in it to use alongside conventional medicine. It is wonderful to see Reiki also appearing on the treatment lists of a lot of the larger health spa’s. People are now coming away from wanting a quick fix of taking a tablet and are looking to alternative therapies such as Reiki that treat the cause rather than just the symptoms.
Reiki is intuitive which means it will flow to wherever it is needed in the body to restore balance and remove any blockages in the flow of energy that may be causing disease.
There are many benefits Reiki can bring, to name but a few:
It can also treat specific ailments and during my time as a therapist I have seen great results with a variety of complaints including migraines, back and shoulder problems, anxiety and depression. It is also very effective with cancer patients as it supports and assists conventional treatments and is safe to use alongside them. It can reduce the side effects of chemotherapy as it helps remove the toxins caused by this treatment.

An Indian Head massage is the ideal way to get a person “out of their head”, far, far away from everyday emotional and mental stress!
Ayurveda is the name of an ancient Indian medical tradition, which dates back over 4,000 years. It includes the use of diet, herbs and massage prescribed according to the client’s individual constitution.
Indian Head Massage comes from an Ayurvedic tradition and is a deep style massage which focuses on the head, shoulders and neck. It stimulates the body’s own healing processes as well as strengthening the muscles and improving the condition of the skin.
In India, It is used across the generations and was originally part of a woman’s grooming routine to keep their hair strong, thick and beautiful. Barbers included head massage in their treatments for men and in time this became an important part of visiting the barber with the focus on scalp health, relaxation and wellbeing.
The massage works on both a physical and energetic level. Physically it helps to relieve tension held in muscles particularly in the neck and shoulders where we tend to store this. This is particularly relevant for those with physical jobs but also office workers who sit over a desk all day.
The massage also works on an energetic level to relieve any blocked negative energy in the body that may be presenting as disease or injury in any of the seven chakras (energy centres) of the body. Pressure is applied to certain key points of the head, neck and shoulders, which correspond to the Chakras. This is a similar principle to how reflexology works with the pressure points of the feet being used to treat the body as a whole. The Chakras can be unblocked in this way allowing for energy to flow in harmony through the body once again to restore wellbeing and good health.
The treatment can be performed in a seated position but I prefer to have the client lying down on the couch so that they can truly relax and let go during the massage. The treatment can be performed with or without the use of oils, according to preference. Starting at the upper back, pressure is applied to certain points to dissolve knots and relax the muscles. I then use various techniques on the shoulders and upper arms to release other common areas of tension and then to the neck and head to release headache-causing blockages and promote better circulation. The scalp is then massaged to relax the entire head and encourage blood flow to the scalp to stimulate hair growth. The last part of the treatment involves a facial pressure point massage, which is very relaxing and can also help achieve a glowing complexion. This part of the treatment can also target headaches and sinus issues.

The ultimate treatment for letting go of tension and feeling nurtured.
The stones are used as an extension of the therapists hands resulting in a more intense treatment. Heat from the stones penetrates deeply into the muscles and it is said that one stroke with a heated stone is equivalent to 5-10 with the hand.
Japanese Hot Stone Massage is based upon Amna, the oldest form of East Asian massage. It provides a complete therapeutic treatment, relaxing the mind, easing stress and revitalizing the body. It also works with the bodies energy system bringing an enhanced flow of vital energy (ki) for an overall sense of wellbeing. It is based on concepts such as yin and yang and the Five Element theory.
The natural basalt stones are formed from volcanic activity. Over many thousands of years they are both heated and smoothed by the flow of water so they absorb and retain their heat. During a session, the temperature of the stones are always carefully tested before they are applied to the skin to ensure your safety at all times.
The treatment has profound physiological effects as the state of deep relaxation achieved encourages rejuvenation of the whole being. It uses a unique blend of kneading, rotation and vibration based movements alongside more traditional hot stone massage. In addition, placement of the stones on various parts of the body allows warmth to gently penetrate through the towels adding to the pleasant nurturing effect. Cold marble stones are used to balance you at the end and are a refreshing way to finish.
Just as with an ordinary massage you can either indulge your whole body or just the back, neck and shoulders for a shorter treatment. It is ideal to add 15 minutes of Reiki to a back massage, to finish the session and sample this lovely therapy.
The treatment can be performed with or without oil - this means it is suitable for clients with allergies. Only the part of the body being massaged is exposed from underneath the large fluffy towels so you can be assured of modesty at all times.

I had been looking for a facial for some time to add to my treatment list and this is the perfect one as it is not just a cosmetic effect but also a holistic one to enhance your overall wellbeing. I went along as a client to a fellow therapist to experience it for myself. I emerged feeling renewed and with toned and glowing skin that I had not seen for a while. I am so pleased to be able to offer this effect to my clients now.
Natural Facelift Massage incorporates a blend of highly effective techniques drawn from both Japanese Face Massage and Indian Face Massage. It also takes aspects from the complementary techniques of Acupressure and Facial Reflexology.
The massage involves a sequence of techniques which act as a natural facelift and is a safe and effective alternative to botox and surgery. It is also much more pleasant and enjoyable!
It will improve the complexion, remove toxins from the face, prevent and reduce facial wrinkles and age spots whilst balancing the life force energy holistically to improve overall health and wellbeing. It produces the equivalent of an accupuncture facelift without the insertion of needles.
In the East, beauty is synonymous with optimal health. According to this belief even the most attractive shaped face cannot be beautiful if the person is not well, as health and beauty are inseperable. When a person glows with the radiance of true health, nothing else is necessary for genuine beauty.
These massage techniques release stresses and traumas locked deeply in the muscles and energy of the face, head and neck. Our face is often our mask, hiding who we really are, and it takes much energy to maintain this front. Dropping this mask can be the door to profound relaxation and inner peace.
The treatment commences with a deeply relaxing neck, shoulder and scalp massage. This is followed by stimulating pressure points on the face to assist the flow of Ki (energy) along the meridian pathways to help balance the internal organs. This works on the same principle as reflexology on the feet. The face is rich in meridians and stimulation of key points can result in whole body and energy balance promoting good health. Next, lifting and smoothing actions are performed to increase muscle tone and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Then a series of stabilising movements lock in the memory of these moves to the muscles and brain to maintain the effect. Lastly, lymphatic drainage strokes remove and disperse toxins that have been released from the process.
For an optimum facial lift, a weekly treatment is recommended for the first 6 weeks. This can then be reduced to a monthly maintenance treatment.

A Reiki session lasts for 1 hour, with an extra 15 minutes to allow for a brief consultation at your first appointment. Prior to this, I will ask you to complete a questionnaire so I am aware of your medical history and any health concerns, plus your lifestyle. I will discuss with you what you are hoping to achieve from the treatment. I will also be happy to chat with you about simple changes you can put in place to improve your health and further support the benefits of Reiki. It is amazing, for example, how many people do not drink enough water and are dehydrated and tired as a result.
You will remain fully clothed for Reiki. Anyone who has trouble getting on and off of a couch can be treated while seated on a chair, if preferred. You will be covered with a soft blanket to ensure you are warm and snug ! The room itself is intended to be a haven away from the stresses of modern life where you can totally relax and feel safe for the hour that follows. A little Frankincense oil is used on my hands at the start to settle you as the aroma is calming and settles your breathing, particularly if you have arrived from a busy day.
I will start by scanning the aura, an energy field which surrounds the physical body. This will allow me to detect any areas of imbalance. I then place my hands lightly on various parts of the body which are focused around the 7 main energy centres (chakras). It is always nice to start at the head as this relaxes the mind. Most people’s heads are like a washing machine with so much going on inside. Working on this area first helps to calm the mental chatter. Deep relaxation can then follow.
If the area needing treatment is a personal one, for example in the case of a bladder infection, I will work in the aura just above the body. This is just as effective as hands on but non intrusive.
Some lovely relaxing music is played during the treatment that will also help you to be in the moment. This helps to stop the mind from wandering.
Some common reactions are:
At the end of the treatment, I will ground you by finishing at your feet to avoid you feeling spaced out. Over the next few days, I’ll ask you to drink plenty of water to flush out any toxins that many have been brought to the surface. I will also ask you to let me know how you are feeling.
